Route 1

Atlantic Sea Board ( Approximately 30 min )

The fairest cape in all the circumference of the world’’ wrote Sir Francis Drake in his ships diary in 1579.

Bartholomew Diaz, pioneer of the sea route from Europe to the East via this Cape in 1488, named it "Cabo de tormentoso" Cape of Storms.

Two hundred ships were wrecked and two thousand lives lost here before 1860 when the Victoria and Alfred harbour and breakwater were built.
Today this has become the world’s most successful waterfront and is situated between two world heritage sites Table Mountain and Robben Island.

Route 2

Chapmans Peak ( Approximately 40 min )

Eight hundred million years of Table Mountain history is clearly visible.


Hout ( timber) Bay named after the ‘inexhaustable ‘ supply of indigenous wood for ships and furniture. Muizenburg gun battery where the British captured the Cape sea route from the Dutch in 1795 facilitating expansion of the British Empire and English becoming the de facto international language.

Route 3

Peninsula Lighthouse ( Approximately 60 min )

The Cape Peninsula, also named Adamaster by ancient mariners after the legendary monster. The warm Agulhas and cold Benguella currents meet, mix and mingle here to support totally different climates, marine and terrestrial systems. The Phoenecians altered course for home here circa 300 BC and the Portuguese rounded Cape Point in 1488 to be the first to discover a trading route to the Far East. Cape Point lighthouse nesting site for thousands of cormorants guides mariners around this deceptive bastion.

Route 4

Whale Watching ( Approximately 2 hours )

Winelands and The Overberg. Lady Anne Barnard named this "the land of milk and honey". Wines, wheatfields, whales, wild flowers and Shipwrecks. Wreck of the Birkenhead at Danger Point in. "Women and children first."

Follow the coast home via Hermanus whale capital of the world; Kogelberg biosphere reserve the focal point of the Cape Floristic regions more than nine thousand flowering Fynbos species and the eastern shoreline of False Bay below the Cape Folded Mountains.
